This guide walks you through the process of converting PointCloud data into a mesh using Autodesk Recap and integrating it with BIM models in Navisworks. By following these steps, you’ll learn how to process your PointCloud, merge it with your Navisworks models, and prepare it for use in Resolve.

In Autodesk Recap:

  1. Prepare Point Cloud in Recap:

    • Open your PointCloud file in Autodesk Recap.

    • Convert the PointCloud to a mesh by hovering over the cloud icon.

    • Click Start on the Scan to Mesh option.

  2. Install Autodesk Connector:

    • Ensure that the Autodesk Connector is installed and running. This is required for cloud processing.

  3. Select Scan Quality:

    • Choose the desired scan quality depending on your project needs.

  4. Generate Texture:

    • Ensure that the Generate Texture option is checked before starting the process.

  5. Choose File Format:

    • Select NWC as the file format, as it can be easily combined with BIM data in Navisworks.

  6. Submit for Processing:

    • Click Submit to process your file.

Once Processed in Recap:

  1. Append File in Navisworks:

    • Open Navisworks and click the Project button.

    • Click Append to add a file to your project.

  2. Select Your Recap File:

    • Navigate to the file you created in Recap. If you don’t see the file, change the file type filter to display the NWC file (or the format you saved it as).

  3. Combine with BIM Data:

    • To merge the PointCloud with BIM data, unhide the files as needed. This allows you to combine the PointCloud and your Navisworks model.

  4. Save the Combined Model:

    • Click Save As and save the combined model as an NWD file.

  5. Upload to Resolve:

    • Upload the NWD file into Resolve for further use.

These steps will help integrate your PointCloud data from Recap with your Navisworks models efficiently.
