The Boundary (formerly called Guardian) is a safety feature that creates virtual walls around your play area. When you get too close to the edge, a visual warning appears so you don't bump into real-world objects.
Boundary Modes
Stationary: For sitting or standing in one spot. Creates a default 3 ft × 3 ft (1 m × 1 m) area centered on you.
Roomscale: For moving around. Lets you draw a custom boundary using your controller. Meta recommends at least 6.5 ft × 6.5 ft (2 m × 2 m) of clear space.
First-Time Setup
When you power on a new headset or enter a new space, the headset will automatically prompt you to set up a boundary. Follow the on-screen instructions to choose Stationary or Roomscale and draw your play area.
Adjusting Your Boundary
Press the Meta button on your right controller to open the Navigator.
Select Quick Controls.
Select Settings, then select Environment Setup.
Select Boundary, then select Adjust Boundary.
From here you can redraw your roomscale boundary or adjust your stationary boundary.
Boundary Settings
From the Boundary settings page, you can also configure:
Set Floor Level: Adjust where the headset thinks the floor is.
Boundary Color: Change the color of the boundary walls.
Double Tap for Passthrough: Enable double-tapping the side of your headset to quickly switch to a view of your real surroundings.
Glanceable Boundary: Look down at an angle while in VR to see where you are in your play space.
Boundary Sensitivity: Adjust how close you can get to the edge before the warning appears. The latest update (v2.3, April 2026) streamlined this into a single slider instead of separate headset/controller settings.
Clear Boundary History: Removes all saved boundary data for your account on this device.
